Samsung is hinting at its next Galaxy Book Windows Laptopexpected to release on Unpacked on February 1, will receive the Ultra treatment, similar to Galaxy Tab S8 Tablets and upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra Telephone. That could mean an S Pen, as Samsung shut down its Note line of devices to focus on the Ultra. We could also see improved cameras as well as sky-high price tags.
in a TM Roh’s Blog PostAs president and head of the Mobile Experiences (MX) business, Samsung digs into what the evolution from Note to Ultra-branded devices means. Roh cites performance and camera capabilities before saying “Ultra means big.”
Ahead of Samsung’s Unpacked event in San Francisco, the company has opened online pre-orders for two devices, a smartphone, a Galaxy Book, and presumably a Windows laptop to follow. Galaxy Book 2 Pro. That laptop maxes out at 15 inches, but we might see something bigger from Samsung, perhaps to compete with Apple The best Macbook Pros.
This is what the Galaxy Book Ultra looks like
This Macbook Pro updated today with faster M2 Pro processor, so it makes sense that Samsung would try to regain some momentum by teasing a new device in the weeks leading up to its launch. The company may be a more worthy Apple competitor in the mobile phone space, but its Galaxy Book 2 Pro performed well in our tests.
The best guess is to add a pen to the Galaxy Book Ultra, of course the Samsung-branded S Pen. We’d also like to see a camera upgrade, and since the webcam is the most important lens on a laptop, the camera should get a boost. We’d also like to see a performance boost, so the latest Intel chips inside would be a nice touch.
Samsung talks about connectivity a number of times in its blog posts, so we also expect the Galaxy Book Ultra to come with a cellular connectivity option, and maybe even a fast 5G network. If you’ll be using a laptop in a networked area, a laptop that can stand still and have a huge antenna is a better bet for the fastest mmWave 5G than a smartphone.
Of course, Samsung could just be referring to the connection between the laptop and the new Galaxy S23 phone. It’s possible that the laptop will rely entirely on the new phone for its cellular connection, using a suite of automated software to connect when the two are in range. We’re hoping it’s the latter, since 5G laptops are still rare.
Lots of hints but no real details
Unfortunately, the blog post didn’t give us many actual concrete details, or even a deducible hint about what to expect from the new phone. With no Ultra version of the Galaxy Book, we can only speculate so much about the new laptop, and these are the features the Galaxy Book needs to match Galaxy S22 Ultra Or the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra.
We’ll have more info on the new phones and laptops, as well as any new Samsung devices, as we continue Samsung Unpacked coverage event. We’re looking forward to great new cameras, cool new laptops, and even a few surprises on the horizon.
