TCL's CES 2023 TV announcement: QD-OLED TVs, and even better mini-LED QLED

A whole series of new TCL TVs can be seen CES 2023, the products are topped by the company’s Q series models. They range in size from 50 inches to a colossal 98 inches, and come packed with features like quantum dot and mini-LED backlighting, with top-of-the-line models including a record number of full-array local dimming zones in a consumer display, according to the company.

TCL’s lineup is headed by the QM8 series. The models range in screen sizes from 65 inches to 98 inches and feature mini-LED Ultra backlights, which offer twice the peak brightness and five times the local dimming zone compared to the company’s 2022 mini-LED TVs . TCL says the QM8 series offers up to 2,300 local dimming zones — the most of any 4K or 8K mini LED TV. The QM8 Series bundle is a native 120Hz model with a Google TV smart interface and a built-in subwoofer for more dynamic built-in sound.

The Q7 series includes TCL’s mid-range TVs with a quantum dot layer to enhance brightness and color. Available in screen sizes from 55 to 75 inches, these feature full-array LED backlighting and local dimming. Gaming features include a native 120Hz display, VRR, and FreeSync Premium Pro, while on the smart TV front, there’s Google TV with voice remote and hands-free voice control.

TCL’s Q6-series models are the company’s budget Quantum Dot line. According to TCL, these displays are 66 percent brighter than standard non-QLED displays. The Q6 series are native 60Hz models, but offer gaming features like VRR and FreeSync Premium Pro. Screen sizes range from 50 inches and up.

QD-OLED TVs will also join TCL’s lineup later in 2023. Details on the new models are scarce, but we expect them to come in at least 55-inch and 65-inch screen sizes — and possibly a new 77-inch size as well.
