Looking your best in Microsoft Teams calls will soon be a lot easier, thanks to a new update from cosmetics giant Maybelline.
The video conferencing platform has announced what might be its strangest partnership yet, offering “virtual makeup” filters that can make you look better for big meetings.
The Maybelline beauty app in Microsoft Teams will allow users to choose from “12 unique looks,” as well as choose from different digital makeup colors and blur effects that can be previewed and “applied” before joining a call.

“No matter where they work, employees want to stay focused and feel empowered when they collaborate with their colleagues,” Microsoft wrote in a blog post announcing the news.
“Maybelline New York The new Maybelline Beauty app in Microsoft Teams can help, allowing users to quickly and easily adjust their personal style in Teams meetings. Virtual makeup allows people to try different styles, providing more ways to express themselves in meetings .Work.”
When trying out the looks, users will also get details of the physical Maybelline products and shades the filter replicates, in case they want to try them out in the real world.
Trisha Ayyagari, Global Brand President, Maybelline New York, said: “Maybelline’s mission is to empower everyone to express their beauty with confidence. Whether you’re working in person or virtually, feeling good about yourself can help you look your best.” “That’s why we’ve partnered with Microsoft Teams to develop virtual makeup—now, even on your busiest day, you can apply makeup with just one click. We hope we can make people’s lives a little easier.”
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the app uses artificial intelligence capabilities provided by Modiface, the augmented reality technology for the beauty industry owned by Maybelline parent company L’Oréal, that recognizes more than 70 points on a user’s face to create a “virtual map.” This makes Seamless application of digital filters is possible.
Virtual try-on services have grown in popularity in fashion and beauty in recent years, but this is the first major expansion in the business and videoconferencing markets. Modiface is already used by the likes of Estée Lauder and Sephora, and the new Teams app was developed in partnership with the Geena Davis Institute to represent a broad and diverse population.
The app is available now, initially in preview, and only for Microsoft Teams enterprise customers, though we expect a wider release soon. Users can access it through the Video Effects menu after joining a Microsoft Teams call.
Microsoft Teams has made similar attempts to boost user numbers before, with a recent update adding a swear word filter to stop any profane language being spoken during meetings.
The addition should hide extreme language not only in the live captions in the meeting, but also in the entire transcription itself, hopefully saving you from any embarrassment.
