According to a report from a prominent leaker, the OnePlus foldable phone may be called the “OnePlus Open.” The company confirmed earlier this year that it would debut a foldable.
The report comes from fairly reliable informant Max Jambor, who tweeted the claim. “OnePlus is taking a different approach to the name of its first foldable smartphone! Let me introduce it to you: OnePlus Open,” Jambor said in a tweet.

Previous rumors have suggested that the OnePlus foldable phone will be called the OnePlus V Fold or simply the OnePlus Fold, both of which would fit with the current naming convention for foldable phones. “Open” is a novel and rather interesting moniker for foldable products, most of which simply use “fold” as a branding.
Name aside, the so-called OnePlus Open has been the star of smartphone rumors in recent weeks. The full specs leaked the other day, painting an impressive picture. The foldable phone is rumored to feature a 7.7-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. The outer screen is said to be a 6.3-inch AMOLED display, which also has a 120Hz refresh rate. This is all reportedly powered by a 4,800mAh battery, while the phone also supports 67W fast charging. We expect it to be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, just like the current flagship OnePlus 11.
welcome change of pace
With foldable devices from the Pixel Fold to the Samsung Galaxy Fold 4 to the Vivo X Fold all having “fold” in their name, it’s nice to see some creativity in the naming scheme for foldable devices.
If the report is accurate, OnePlus Open remains descriptive of what it’s doing — opening — but it’s different. It’s also not as opaque as the Huawei Mate X, so that’s a good thing.
Let’s hope that in the future there are more candidates for opening the thesaurus rather than repeating the old and overused “fold”.
