According to reports, “Final Fantasy 16” overheated and caused some players’ PS5 consoles to crash.
Players have posted on Twitter Reddit Report issues that have not been acknowledged by developer and publisher Square Enix as of this writing.
One player on Reddit explained: “I just wanted to share what I saw with my own eyes while playing FFXVI” (thanks, push square). “Screenshot attached, this is my PS5 going from quiet mode to berserk mode, fan speed up, then suddenly black screen within a few seconds. PS5 beeps three times and shuts off.

“I know this game is very demanding for all the boss fights and there are known reports of overheating, but I’ve never experienced this. My room is pretty cool with fans and AC running due to the summer heat, PS5 Placed on a table top with lots of open space. Dust rarely collects. I’ve never had any overheating warnings.”
The player added that they were playing the game in graphics mode with HDR enabled, and when that particular scene was played, “the fans went crazy and shut down immediately.”
“It all happened so quickly,” they added. “Is this an actual overheating issue or a potential bug I just encountered?”
Dozens of other players also expressed also encountered this problem “in exactly the same place“, although others have stated that they have played the same part without any issues. While the affected PS5 may have overheated due to being in a poorly ventilated space, those affected have disputed this.

Currently, the issue only seems to be affecting those who are running the action RPG in graphics mode.
