Nearly three years after the launch of its Rome-based a-X2P portable mobile workstationThe MediaWorkstation has a newer model and is arguably the most powerful integrated portable computer in the world.
it is not a laptop Or a mobile workstation in the true sense; its design is closer to One machinesimilar to luggage from the past, in that it doesn’t have any internal batteries; with one of our products, you’re limited to a maximum of 10 minutes of use best portable power station.
Ideal for what the boutique PC vendor calls “highly multithreaded applications in the field,” newer models have been upgraded to support AMD’s Dragon Genoa is based on Zen 4. That means two EPYC 9654 CPUs, each with 96 cores, and up to twelve 256GB memory modules (for a total of 3TB of DDR5 memory).
You can insert up to two full-height, full-size graphics cards (or accelerator), an M.2 NVMe boot SSD and five storage drives. All of this is cooled by six fans and a power supply unit of unknown capacity (probably closer to 2Kw). The motherboard used is most likely the recently launched Gigabyte MZ73, a rare e-ATX dual-socket SP5 model.
Lots of ports, but no Thunderbolt 3 or 4
There are plenty of ports, but no Thunderbolt 3 or 4 connectivity, a surprising omission considering the variety of use cases that would put it to good use. In the absence of any wireless connectivity options, a pair of 10GbE connectors will ensure this mobile studio can connect to the outside world.
The image shows five 5.25-inch drive bays and a slot-load optical drive, seven slots for PCIe devices, and traditional ports such as DVI and PS2.
a-X2P can also be used with six 24″ monitors monitor (up to 4K and 1000 nits of brightness), this configuration pushes the weight of the mobile workstation to 55 lbs. Each workstation comes with a touchpad and heavy-duty mechanical keyboard that folds down onto the display for easy transport, and a thick, sewn-in vinyl wheeled carrying case.
We’ve reached out to MediaWorkstation to find out if the a-2XP actually supports 6TB as it mentions in the tech specs that it’s compatible with 256GB 3DS RDIMMs DDR5 module.
Expect to pay over $200,000 for a fully equipped high-end mobile workstation that will rival any desktop workstation computer or video editing computer. You can’t configure any product online, you will need to fill out a form or do it over the phone – which is understandable since such a niche player would want to weed out time wasters and focus on serious customers instead.
The company also sells Xeon-based portable workstation PCs, including single-socket and dual-socket models (i-X1P, i-X2P) and single-core models based on AMD EPYC and Threadripper Pro (a-X2P, a-XP).
