Blooming flowers include Dust, a startup founded by former OpenAI employees. Dust is close to raising $5 million in funding led by Sequoia Capital at a valuation of $30 million to $40 million, two people familiar with the matter said. The round was highly competitive, with the term sheet offering up to double the valuation, one of the people said.

Perplexity AI, a startup founded by former employees of OpenAI, Google and Meta, is raising $20 million to $25 million in funding led by NEA, valuing the company at about $150 million, two people familiar with the matter said. LangChain, a startup developing software that helps other companies incorporate AI into their products, has raised funding from Benchmark, a person familiar with the matter said.

It was followed by OpenAI’s $13 billion raised from Microsoft, including $10 billion in January, and this year’s $300 million raised by another AI startup, Anthropic.

At startup incubator Y Combinator, at least 50 of the 218 companies currently in the program are working on generative AI, according to Truewind, an AI bookkeeping startup that participated in the program. Alex Lee, CEO of Truewind, said that ChatGPT helps investors, potential customers and potential employees understand the possibilities of the technology.

“Before, you would walk in and say, ‘We’re doing something with AI,’ but it was hard to imagine what it would look like,” Mr Lee said. “Now, they say, ‘Oh, I played ChaptGPT, I can imagine how to use it in Minecraft.'”
