ChatGPT continues its foray into the tech industry as it reaches a new segment: smartwatches. Fitness brand Amazfit has revealed that it will add generative artificial intelligence as a feature on its GTR4 device.
looking at a Recently posted a demo on LinkedIn (opens in a new tab), ChatGPT will be listed as ChatGenius in GTR4’s menu, and from there, you can ask it all you want. The video shows someone asking how to improve their running performance. Then in just a few seconds, ChatGenius replies with a few paragraphs of answers, which you can read in full by turning the crown of the dial. Tapping the screen clears previous responses and allows you to ask new questions. You can even ask ChatGenius how your day was and it will tell you how many steps you took and your current heart rate.
Apart from the demo, there is very little information on how ChatGPT works on the Amazfit GTR4. other reports (opens in a new tab) Claims you can ask general questions like the weather forecast or traffic like any other smartwatch. It’s unknown which other Amazfit devices will even get the feature. The video hints at ChatGPT support, depending on the watch model and your location, with the US being the only confirmed region at the time of writing.
We reached out to Amazfit about the availability of ChatGPT support, as well as its other features. For example, can it display different types of data or is it limited to a few things? This story will be updated if we hear back.
first party support
The fact that Amazfit was able to beat the tech giants to add first-party support for generating artificial intelligence to smartwatches is a huge achievement. The closest thing to ChatGPT on devices like the Apple Watch is a third-party app called watchGPT for Apple Watch (opens in a new tab). It works pretty much the same way. You open the app, ask a question, and you get a few paragraphs back. However, there are some notable differences.
For starters, you have to pay $3.99 to use it, whereas the Amazfit feature is free. But you can “share the results of your interactions” with others via text, email, or social media messages. It’s unclear whether GTR4 can do this. Either way, Amazfit has managed to push the boundaries of others. We think it’s only a matter of time before companies like Apple or Google finally add first-party generated AI support to their own smartwatches.technology is live browser and search engineafter all.
