More school districts should ban the ChatGPT artificial intelligence tool, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin said Thursday.

The Republican told CNN’s evening town hall that America should be clear about its goal as a country, “which is to make sure our kids can think, so if machines think for them, then we’re not accomplishing our goal.”

“I do think it’s something to be very careful about, and I do think more districts, more school districts should ban it,” the governor said.

Earlier this year, public schools in Northern Virginia blocked the use of chatbots on county-issued devices.

Loudoun County spokesman Dan Adams told FOX Business in January that Virginia school staff are currently blocking ChatGPT on the network and student-assigned devices to “maintain their status as exemplary educators” and that they ” expect the highest level of honesty” in assignments assigned by students.

Other cities in states across the country have responded similarly amid concerns about student cheating and learning.
