I’m a little disappointed that Apple didn’t name the yellow color it splashed on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. It’s just yellow, or a yellow iPhone 14. At least True Dark Blue gets “Midnight,” but Apple apparently isn’t interested in anything like “Banana Yellow,” “Sunflower Yellow,” or “Merengue Yellow.”
Look, it’s not just me. More than one person inquired about the name after I unboxed the gleaming yellow phone and showed it to colleagues and colleagues. They’re also sad that Apple didn’t go the Samsung route and name it “lemon yellow,” like Samsung’s “Bora Purple,” which when translated into Korean means “purple purple.”
The new color variants were quietly unveiled on Tuesday (March 7), bringing the total number of iPhone 14 color options to six. It brings bright yellow backs, polished yellow metal straps, and new pale yellow wallpapers to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. Pre-orders begin March 10, 2023, and ships March 14.
Other than a cheerful new look, this iPhone 14 is no different (no new shades for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max). There’s the same dual 12MP rear camera system and front-facing 12MP TrueDepth camera; the same 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display; and the same last-gen A15 Bionic CPU. It’s just as good now as the iPhone when I viewed it in a different color.
My point of view
When I was in kindergarten, the teacher asked us about our favorite color. In a panic, I blurted out “yellow” because I hadn’t thought about it in five years. Before long, I had yellow shirts, hats, and yellow placemats with my name on them. This color has been with me for decades. Even now, if you were to ask me what my favorite color is, I’d say, “yellow,” and I’m still secretly ignorant.
Now, as I gaze at this lovely and delightful 6.1-inch smartphone, I’m once again faced with the question of color preference. It’s a gorgeous smartphone. As usual, Apple has put the color under the glass on the back panel and embedded it essentially in the metal band that surrounds the phone. This enhances the premium look and feel.but how do i Feel About the color?

Unlike the purple iPhone 14 or my space black iPhone 14 Pro, the yellow iPhone 14 practically shouts, “Look at me!” There’s no way to hide this phone when you take it out of your pocket. Don’t think a yellow MagSafe case will spoil your looks. It is a brighter yellow.
As for the new yellow-themed wallpaper coming in an iOS update, it’s a subtle picture. You may not even realize it has a yellow tinge.
I took my phone outside and put it in front of a yellow truck, a yellow bus, and a yellow NYC cab. Guess what? None of these things are really yellow. They are all various shades of orange. Yellow iPhones are real yellow, my friends.
After my Yellow Submarine iPhone experience, I started asking for more third-party input.

I just held up the yellow iPhone 14 in front of people and waited for the reaction. It never took long. Yellow hits you in the face. Most of the people I spoke to seemed happy with, or at least interested in, the new DayGlo finish.
One person pointed out that yellow is coded as “neither masculine nor feminine”, which is a very astute observation. It’s a spring (if you live in the northern hemisphere) color that will appeal to everyone. Maybe Apple is releasing it in this color now to boost iPhone sales (I don’t have any information that they are slow), and it’s a color anyone can carry.
Now here’s something I hadn’t considered: changing flavors. I recently remodeled my kitchen and instead of pastel tones we opted for bold dark blue cabinets. so cute.I don’t think we’ll consider yellow, but we probably won’t That Popularity.
I also think Michelle nailed it with the color: frozen mango sorbet.
Well, John’s problem seems to go beyond yellow, but I’ve heard this sentiment elsewhere. Yellow isn’t groundbreaking, and as others have pointed out, we’d be even more excited if Apple combined this announcement with the launch of yellow AirPods.
Instead, Apple seems to want to take credit for launching the yellow iPhone 14, as if it were some kind of innovation. Obviously not.
A rather unscientific Twitter poll seemed to fit John’s sentiments more closely, with a majority saying they didn’t like it much. When it came to bright yellow, more than a third said they liked it.
John’s frustration was an outlier in the immediate responses I got. Most people seem to be either smitten with the new color, or at least willing to admit it will get attention.
I wonder who’s torn between buying the yellow iPhone 14 they want and the high-performance iPhone 14 Pro that doesn’t have a yellow version.
However, Michele countered the notion that “regular people” (meaning those who haven’t dedicated their lives to geek pursuits) might choose the yellow iPhone 14 over the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14. Pro Max.
Maybe so.
At least, I have to agree with one colleague who told me that when you pull it out of your pocket, “people go ‘wow.'”
