Hop on the AI train, brave is integrating its own AI-powered search functionality into a web browser called Summarizer — similar to what Microsoft did with Bing recently.
The new feature “provides short and concise answers at the top of Brave Search results”. For example, if you want to know about a chemical spill in East Palestine, Ohio, Summarizer will create (opens in a new tab) A summary of the event and some resources for you to read. Unlike Microsoft, which only uses ChatGPT for its Bing chatbots, Summarizer uses three internal Large Language Models, or LLMs for short, based on retrained versions of BART and DeBERTa AI models to create snippets of search results.

To simplify the technology behind them, MRT (opens in a new tab) and Debeta (opens in a new tab) Generative writing AI is like Chat GPT Specially trained to take word positioning and context into account, so text output reads well. What Brave did is take these models and retrain them using its own search result data to develop Summarizer.
According to the announcement, Summarizer’s training mission is divided into three steps. First, Brave taught the LLM to prioritize answering the questions it was asked. The company then uses a “zero-shot classifier” to classify the results, making the given information relevant. The last step helps the model rewrite code snippets to make them more coherent. The result is an accurate answer, concise and clear, with multiple sources attached.
Note that this feature is still in its early stages. Brave says Summarizer only utilizes about 17% of search queries to formulate answers, but there are plans to expand that number higher for better paragraphs. Its accuracy also needs some work. The company acknowledges that Summarizer can produce what it calls “hallucination,” where irrelevant snippets are mixed with results. Additionally, the feature may include some “false or offensive text” in the answers.

Summarizer is currently available to all Brave Search users on desktop and mobile except Brave Search Goggles (opens in a new tab). It is disabled there. We tried out Summarizer ourselves, and while it’s cool, it does need some work. Not all search results will give you a snippet because it depends on what you ask and which news topics are going viral. For example, the chemical spill in East Palestine, Ohio is currently a hot issue, so you can have Summarizer work there. However, when we asked about the recent cold snap in Los Angeles and what’s going on with certain video game developers, we either didn’t have a summary or got outdated information. But the latter does have sources, so it’s at least accurate.still better than owning ChatGPT throws a tantrum Or lie to your face.
