While rumors abound about a possible WIndows 12 release, this latest leak appears to be the most concrete evidence we have yet of the existence of the new operating system.
Hardware Leaker @leaf_hobby, via edge, revealed details about Intel’s Meteor Lake desktop platform. Based on these details, Intel reportedly mentioned that its upcoming CPUs will support Windows 12. The tweet has since been deleted, and both Microsoft and Intel declined to comment to The Verge on the validity of the report and other rumors.
Prior to this leak, Windows Central’s Zac Bowden reported that Microsoft would Switch to new engineering schedule A new version of the WIndows operating system is released every three years. If this turns out to be accurate information, the next version, Windows 12, will be released in 2024.
Bowden also reported The next version of the Windows operating system is called “Next Valley”. There were even images of the operating system shown at Ignite 2022, where the design is said to be adapted to different devices and accessories.
another less satisfying rumor
There are also rumors that Windows 12 may be The first cloud-based operating system, which doesn’t sound particularly far-fetched. If true, it could be hosted off-device and bundled with compute and storage as part of a subscription package. Honestly, I think the future is scary.
We already have a lot of software, like the Adobe suite and Microsoft Office, that are subscription-based. If you’re on a tight budget and can’t afford the expensive ones, that alone can be tricky to handle. But at least these products can be easily replaced by free versions that are open source.
Not hard-installing an OS on a PC is a whole different beast. Enterprises have been using a variation, virtual desktop setups, to support BYOD scenarios for years, but that’s nothing compared to installing an operating system on any cloud-based Windows PC or laptop that would otherwise Should be standard configuration premium.
Hopefully this is a set of rumors that time proves wrong.
