Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantum Fever Already in theaters – the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is unlikely to be the same forever. You can read our full article Ant-Man and the Wasp: QuantumaniA non-spoiler review of this movie. But if you’ve already seen the Marvel Phase 5 movies, or you want to spoil yourself with details of the post-credits scene, read on.
Here’s your final warning: main ant man 3 Spoilers follow.
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania mid-credits scene explained – What is Kang Council?
By the end of the superhero movie, an exiled Kang is presumed dead. He is sucked into the core of his Chair of Time, and a shadow seems to confirm this, saying ominously that “The Exile is dead”.
The figure is revealed to be Jonathan Majors, who dresses and behaves differently from another variant of Kang. His top hat and grand gown robes seem (at least, from our brief glimpse) to be references to Immortus, traditionally the oldest and most powerful of Kang’s many variants.
He talks again to Jonathan Majors — surprise, surprise — Jonathan Majors wearing an ancient Egyptian headgear. In the comics, Kang ruled Egypt for a while as Pharaoh Rama-Tut, and it looks like the character has been given another variant of Kang and reimagined as Immortus’ right-hand man.
That’s not all. A third Kang mutant, balding and wearing futuristic armor, joins the duo as they talk about the invasion. It’s not the first time we’ve heard the term: in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, An invasion is what happens when universes collide, ending with one of the universes being destroyed.
Rama-Tut asked Immortus: “How many of us did you call?” Immortus replied “All of us”.They walked into a grand colosseum, and a crowd of cheering Kang variants appeared inside, with a teleporter inside, sort of like the doors TVA used inside Rocky Season 1. There are hundreds of them, each acting differently as an individual variation of the villain’s classic costume. This is the Council of Kangs, hinted at earlier in the film by Kang (which is getting confusing, so we’ll just call him Prime Kang from now on) warning of the coming of “I…a lot of me”. A variation on our hypothesis is that Immortus appears to be leading the council.
It’s safe to say that these Kang variants will spark a multiverse war that will certainly constitute Avengers: Kang Dynasty and resolve Avengers: Secret Warsboth of which are part of Marvel’s Phase 6.
Like the Secret Wars comics, this will likely end with some of these universes merging via the aforementioned invasion, creating a single Earth Prime. The trouble with multiverse stories is that once you go too far down the rabbit hole, the heroes are off the hook: everything that could happen is going to happen somewhere. Once all the alternate reality shenanigans are over, Secret Wars could resume the main MCU.
At the end of most MCU movies, there is a legend like “Ant-Man and the Wasp (or any heroes in the movie) will return”, indicating that their stories are not over yet. However, this time the white text is “Kang Jiang will return”.
As mentioned in our review, this is Kang’s movie, not Scott and Hope’s, and Marvel is doing everything they can to get audiences excited for a 2025 movie Kang Dynasty By foreshadowing the Master of Time is the real threat to the Marvel multiverse.
