dying light 2 Coming up to celebrate its first birthday, instead of asking around for gifts, developer Techland has something for us players: a glorious update. The team started with a deadly night that revolutionized open-world zombie gaming. And I, for one, couldn’t be more excited.
“The plan for 2023 is to focus on delivering on the needs and expectations of the community,” dying light 2Tymon Smektala, Franchise Director at , told us. “We’re ending the experimental phase and trying different things. We now know what our community wants”.
this year looks packed dying light 2 content, because in Anniversary Live (opens in a new tab) With an upgrade to the combat system, it will add “physics, more brutality, and even more immersiveness than it currently has,” Smektala said.Intensified violence will affect dying light 2.
lights out
One of Dying Light’s most memorable qualities is its day-night cycle. Ultraviolet light weakens the zombies in this apocalyptic world, so they are very tame in the sun. However, this can give you a horrible false sense of security. As the sun goes down, these once docile creatures flip coins and transform into devastating killing machines. Super mutants, like Fineline, who can tear you to shreds in seconds, and Volatile, who shreds, also venture out of their dark lairs and roam the streets.
Techland didn’t always mean the Dying Light franchise was so dire, though. With the first game, Smektala said, it “wanted to make the night out more accessible to casual players,” but it turns out fans prefer hardcore games.
“Fans just want to have a nightly experience that actually satisfies them; apologies for saying that, shit their pants,” Smektala said. The developers took suggestions from the community, and because of that, we had a more challenging night.
Previously, roofs were relatively safe at night. While loitering around isn’t a good idea, if you perfect your parkour and travel quickly across the sky, you’ll arrive at a safe house with nearly all extremities intact. However, the rotting and abandoned streets are a chaotic and bloody mess filled with mindless hordes and super mutants that will befall you instantly. This separation of top and bottom resulted in a very binary experience, which was not what Techland wanted, so the team changed it.
“It’s going to be scarier on the roof; it’s going to be more challenging,” Smektala said. “Traveling on rooftops won’t be the ultimate solution to all problems”. So get ready for chaos up and down; with this new update, nowhere is safe once the lights go down.
tough love
News about a scarier twilight probably isn’t what you want to hear; I can barely handle the confusion and terror of the darkness right now, but making the nights scarier is excellent dying light 2.
Your excellent parkour skills, nimble hook swings, and docile zombies will keep you in the dying light 2 pretty easy. At first, Smektala and his team thought this was what their fans wanted, as they “realized that about 50 percent, maybe more, of the players were skipping the night”. However, once you’re the ruler of the sun, there’s nothing to remind you that it’s a zombie apocalypse. That’s where the night comes in.
Spend the night like some scary boogieman dying light 2 daunting. “It’s a good thing if people aren’t playing at night, because it’s like forbidden fruit,” Smektala said. “They’re probably thinking, ‘Well, someday I’ll be brave enough to do this. Someday I will face the horrors of the night.”
While I’m not sure if the fear of looming darkness will make me any braver, I can’t wait to see how far I’m willing to go down this Twilight rabbit hole. dying light 2 is a survival horror game, so these updates could be a home run for this horror post-apocalypse game.
