Following the launch of the Nothing Phone (1) in the UK last year, the brand appears to be planning a follow-up in 2023, based on comments from CEO and co-founder Carl Pei.

The Nothing Phone (1) isn’t the best phone on the market right now, but its bold aesthetics and affordable price – along with performance that’s definitely worth the money – make it a very popular phone in sales territories. As such, the It’s no surprise that the brand wants to launch a follow-up.

during an interview inverse, Nothing CEO Carl Pei has admitted that his company has big plans for its next “better” smartphone: the Phone (2). While Pei was reportedly reticent to go into too many details, he did reveal two key areas that Nothings wants to focus on with its next smartphone.

First is the software. We don’t know exactly what form the upgrade will take, but we expect to see some improvements to the UI. In our review, we found the Android-based Nothing OS to be clean, but it wasn’t the most stable version of Android out there, and it lacked user-friendly features like one-handed mode.

Another big difference is that the Phone (2) was designed with an American audience in mind. The Nothing phone(1) initially snubbed the US when it launched, only recently getting there through a bizarre testing program. The program appears to be being used to help Nothing understand US consumer demand for smartphones, while also working with carriers to determine the certifications and features required for its devices to function properly on US networks.

That said, we don’t want everything to be different from call(1). It seems likely that the Phone (2) will continue to use the iconic Glyph interface of the original, and will most likely offer competitive pricing to give users value for their money. We’ll probably have to wait for a proper announcement later this year, though to find out exactly how much the Phone (2) will cost and its packaging specifications.

Until then, we’ll have to deal with a few other tech showcases, including an announcement at Samsung Unpacked 2023 on February 1 (tomorrow at the time of writing). Unpacked 2023 seems likely to be the launch event of the Samsung Galaxy S23 smartphone (and its updated Samsung Galaxy S23 Plus and Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra models).
