Tango Gameworks, the studio behind The Evil Within series, has announced its new game — and it’s a far cry from the studio’s regular offerings.
During the Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct showcase, the developer showed off Hi-Fi Rush, a stylish rhythm action game that feels a bit like Scott Pilgrim, coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Launched on PC.
With a comic book art style reminiscent of Jet Set Radio, Hi-FI Rush sees you stepping into the sneakers of Chai, a would-be rock star who gets music playing by mistake With an instrument strapped to his heart, he can feel the rhythm of almost everything, allowing you to turn the world into a living soundtrack.
we got the beat
Chai must fight his way through corporate headquarters one department at a time to thwart their nefarious plans, with every attack and action synchronized to the game’s live soundtrack. But it’s not just Chai who has the rhythm, obstacles, cutscenes, enemies and more all play a role in this musical game. By embracing the rhythm and attacking to the beat, you’ll be able to empower your Chai in battle. You won’t be penalized for having two left feet, however, and the developer stresses that his combat will never be limited by the music.
At the end of each division, Chai will have a musical duel with his boss (definitely like Scott Pilgrim). But instead of the usual beats, these fights are scored by licensed tracks. Expect tunes from Nine Inch Nails, The Prodigy, and more.
Fortunately, Chai is not alone. In addition to his trusty robot cats who help him keep the pace, there are also some unlikely allies he can team up with to unleash devastating attacks.
It’s certainly not what we expected from the studio that brought us the spooky Ghostwire: Tokyo and the dreaded The Evil Within series, but I can’t wait to check it out later today.
