One of the things that keeps us from opening malicious emails full of malware is that most of these emails go straight to our spam folder.
Sometimes legitimate emails may be sent to your spam folder instead of your inbox. We recommend that you regularly check your spam folder for legitimate emails sent in error, for the following reasons.

In January 2022, an Oakland, Michigan woman was searching her spam folder for lost emails and found an email from the Michigan Lottery announcing she had won the $3 million jackpot. Initially, she wisely thought it must be too good to be true and thought it was a phishing scam.

To make sure that if history and her good fortune repeat themselves, the same thing doesn’t happen again, she made sure to mark any future emails from the Michigan Lottery as “not spam.”

How to mark certain emails as “not spam”
More often than not, we’ve all likely found an unopened email in our spam folder that we’ve been waiting for.
This is because after you mark some emails as spam or spam, almost all email services filter emails with similar subjects or addresses into your spam or junk folder. However, most email services have an easy way to make sure this doesn’t happen again by marking certain emails as “not spam”.

Mark email as “not spam” In Gmail:
- Go to your spam folder
- Select the relevant mailbox
- click not spam on the top menu.

- click Never block senders.

Add an email address to your contact list
Another way to prevent important emails from ending up in the spam folder on any email service is to put those email addresses in your contact list. No email service sends identified emails from your contacts into your spam folder.

- go Google Contacts at contacts.google.com
- click create contact In the upper left corner

To add emails to your Contacts list in Microsoft Outlook:
- click new contact in the top toolbar
- Enter all relevant information
- click create.
To add an email to your Contacts list in Apple Mail:
- Open an email from the address you want to add
- Right click on the sender’s email address
- click Add to Contacts.
To add an email to your Contacts list in Mail on an iOS device:
- Open an email from the address you want to add
- Click on the sender’s email address
- tap create new contact
- tap complete.

With all of this in mind, remember to exercise caution before opening any emails sent to your spam folder, as there’s a good chance your email service sent them there for legitimate reasons.
