Apple is currently rolling out a long overdue firmware update that will make it easier to locate unknown air label near you. This is part of the company’s efforts to ensure that bad actors do not misuse the devices to track others.
Tracking issue first occurrence Back to May 2021 When the investigative report comes from Washington post Shows how easy it is to follow someone with an AirTag. By placing one on a person, the device can send an exact location to the iPhone every few minutes, even detailing an exact address.
now with Firmware Update 2.0.24 (opens in a new tab), the Pinpoint Find feature will be able to “locate an unknown AirTag” if it detects a person moving with you. You’ll also get an iPhone notification telling you “when a detached AirTag travels with you,” and the AirTag will start beeping, ostensibly to allow you to locate it.If this sounds familiar, it’s because Apple has done something like back to april By increasing the volume of the AirTag in the 1.0.301 update. This appears to be part of the company’s ongoing effort to update AirTags to better protect users.
Also included in the patch is firmware update 2.0.36, which fixes the AirTag accelerometer “not activating under certain circumstances” bug. This fix will help your iPhone more accurately detect if your AirTag or an AirTag attached to you is moving. ”
soon to be repaired
To get these updates, you just need to place the AirTag within 33 feet of your iPhone so it’s within the maximum range of the device’s Bluetooth signal. The firmware will download automatically. However, there are some prerequisites.
Your device must be running iOS 16.2 or later, according to AirTag Support Page (opens in a new tab). Precision Finding changes require you to have an iPhone model equipped with Ultra Wideband, a technology that gives these smartphones spatial awareness. Most countries in the world support UWB, but be aware that there are a few that do not, such as Indonesia and Armenia.
When the company first started rolling out firmware update 1.0.301 back in April, it promised it was the first of four updates, and AirTags have already gotten the second and third in the latest batch. We asked Apple if it could tell us what the fourth will bring. This story will be updated later.
