Eight games will be leaving Xbox’s subscription service on December 31, including one of the best titles released in the past decade.
First-person sci-fi adventure Outer Wilds is one of the names being axed Xbox Game Pass. It debuted in 2019 and won many awards, and it will be released in 2022 ps5 and Xbox Series X|S for the next generation of gamers to try.
Fortunately, in the Outer Wilds and seven other pull from the service (opens in a new tab)making way for the arrival of the new year with two Persona games and Monster Hunter Rise.

Outer Wilds is a time loop story that takes place in a galaxy full of mysteries. When you start the game, you only have 22 minutes to explore the solar system in your homemade spaceship before the sun goes supernova, destroying every planet in the sky. However, instead of being sucked into space dust, travel back in time and you’re free to restart your exploration.
To solve the mystery of Outer Wilds, you’ll have to put your 22 minutes to good use, but your reward is a unique sci-fi game. A dense open-world format and an immersive soundtrack provide a gorgeous backdrop for your discoveries, so Wildlands won three BAFTA Awards for Best Game, Best IP and Best Game Design in 2020. No wonder.
If space mysteries aren’t your bag, check out Secret Neighbor for a seasonal multiplayer stealth offering. In this puzzle game set in the world of Hello Neighbor, you team up with grumpy neighbor Mr. Peterson to rescue one of your friends from a gloomy basement; however, beware that one of you actually is the bad guy. Think Among Us, only scarier.

Of course, it’s sad to see one of the most acclaimed sci-fi adventures say goodbye at the end of the month — but it’s not all bad news. January promises a slew of new titles as we usher in 2023; JRPG fans will be able to console themselves with the arrival of Personal 3 Portable and Persona 4 Golden on January 19th.
