You see, after Nvidia revealed the first salvo of its Lovelace cards, with the flagship RTX 4090 leading the charge, doubts began to be cast over the two RTX 4080 models that were scheduled to be released soon. It has been revealed that the RTX 4080 16GB is the “real” 4080, while its 12GB cousin quietly uses a less powerful GPU chip in addition to having less video memory.
After some outrage from gamers and journalists alike, Nvidia announced a U-turn, saying it would “launch” the RTX 4080 12GB and rebrand it for a later re-release. Team Green has been surprisingly humble throughout the affair, pledging to reimburse its manufacturing partners for rebranding costs and generally acknowledging that the card was poorly named, which could lead to consumer confusion.
We now know that the 12GB 4080 will return with a new name: the RTX 4070 Ti, which is a more appropriate name for a card that uses the AD104 GPU chip instead of the AD103 chip in the actual RTX 4080.
The card’s specs have leaked, and current rumors point to a January release, but we still don’t know anything when it comes to pricing. We can also expect to see the regular RTX 4070 in the near future, which will use a stripped-down version of the same AD104 board. The two xx70 cards will likely launch simultaneously in 2023.

Multiple sources suggest that the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti will launch in January 2023, possibly alongside its less powerful RTX 4070 sibling. The latest speculation, based on multiple separate leaks, puts the exact date at January 5th.

Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti: Price
It’s hard to gauge a predicted price for the RTX 4070 Ti; the previously canceled card, the RTX 4080 12GB, is expected to retail for $899 / £899 (around AU$1310). We’d be surprised — and frankly disappointed — if Nvidia stuck with that price after the rebrand.
The release of AMD’s aggressively priced Radeon RX 7900 XTX may also spur Nvidia to lower prices a bit, so we wouldn’t be shocked by the $799 MSRP for the 4070 Ti. However, that’s still $200 more than the previous-gen RTX 3070 Ti’s launch price.
Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti: Specifications
The full specs of the RTX 4070 Ti have already been leaked, so while you shouldn’t take these figures as gospel, we have a good idea of how it will perform. As mentioned above, the card is expected to run on the AD104 GPU die, which will feature 7,680 CUDA cores, 240 tensor cores, and 60 streaming multiprocessors.
Unsurprisingly, this GPU will have the same 12GB of GDDR6X VRAM as the original RTX 4080 12GB with a speed of 21Gbps and a memory bandwidth of 504GB/s. The RTX 4070 Ti’s boost clock is believed to be 2,610MHz.
Finally, we also need to consider the power requirements. Unlike existing Lovelace cards, the RTX 4070 Ti will have a (relatively!) reasonable 285W TDP, which means you’ll want to be able to use this card without having to upgrade your PSU.
