When you create an account with Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter, you’ll be asked if you want to sync your contacts. It seems harmless, but it’s not. Here’s why you need to stop doing it.

Data collection goes far beyond social media. Every big tech company has at least some information about you. Apple, Google, Twitter, and Meta all have your profile. But what do they really know? Well, there is a way for you to find out.

Some big tech companies have taken steps to minimize the risk of your data being exposed to third-party advertisers, but this hasn’t been completely eradicated.A few months ago, Apple introduced Application Tracking Transparency (ATT)which allows iOS users to decide which apps can access their data.

Even with this active setup, Apple still collects a lot of data, including your Apple ID details, data stored in your photos and emails, and purchases from the Apple Store, App Store, and iTunes.

You can download a copy of Personal Data to see what information Apple stores about you. That’s it:

Sign in to your Apple account at privacy.apple.com and select Request a copy of your data.

Select the data you want or check the box select all.

click go ahead and complete the request.

You’ll see a confirmation screen that says you’ll be notified by email when the data is ready. It may take up to 7 days.

Google tracks more than searches

If you have a Google account, the company probably knows more about you than your closest friends. The only way for Google to stop tracking and storing your data is to not use its services. easy to say, hard to do.

Here’s how to manage what Google knows about you:

Sign in to your Google account: myactivity.google.com/activitycontrols.

You can review what Google saves to your profile and delete all of your search history, location tracking, YouTube history and personalized ads.

choose Manage all network and application activity. You can use the controls on this page to review your activity, delete manually, or delete automatically.choose delete The drop-down menu starts.

choose management history for you youtube data and Location History, and repeat the above steps.

notes: If location tracking is enabled, Google also keeps an eye on where the photo was taken.

Twitter keeps track of your login history, the devices you use, the places you visit while using Twitter, and your preferences. Don’t forget that every tweet can be screenshotted or tracked and used against you at any time.

Here’s how to download the Twitter data archive:

Log into your Twitter account from your computer and click more icons in the navigation bar.

go Settings and Support > Settings and Privacy.

choose Your Account > Download Your Data Archive.

You will be asked to enter your password. Alternatively, you can verify your identity by sending a code to the email address and/or phone number on file.

After confirming your identity, click request data button.

When the download is ready, Twitter will send an email or push notification to your connected email account.From your settings, you can click the download data down button download data part.

After receiving the email, click download Click the button and download the ZIP file of the Twitter archive while logged into your Twitter account.

Facebook is a data trove

Social media accounts collect a lot of personal information about you. That’s why hackers find Facebook or Twitter accounts more valuable than credit card details. The best part? You provided the information yourself.

By setting up a Facebook account, the company knows your name, age, where you live, your friends, your interests, and even your political affiliation.

Here’s how to get a copy of your data from Facebook:

Open Facebook on your computer and click your contour.

choose Settings & Privacy > Settings.

choose Privacy > Your Facebook Information from the left pane.

choose Download information.

Check or uncheck the checkboxes for the various categories. Other options include date range, download format, and media quality.

When ready, click request download start download.

Your request will appear as “Pending” in the “Available Files” section of the “Download Your Information” tool.

You will be notified when it is ready, which may take a few days.Once this happens, go to the available files part download your information tool.

click download and enter your password.
