Holiday internet scams are becoming more and more common.
According to the FBI, thousands of people fall victim to holiday scams every year. Two of the most prevalent scams are non-delivery and non-payment crimes.
In a non-delivery scam, buyers pay for goods or services they find online, but never receive them. Alternatively, non-payment scams involve the shipment of goods or services — but the seller never receives payment.
According to a 2021 report from the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), non-payment or non-delivery scams cost people more than $337 million.
