Pro-Ject appears to be referencing Jony Ive’s design look book, with an all-white limited edition of its mid-range Debut PRO turntable.
The Austrian company’s original Debut Pro was released last year as a successor to its audiophile-friendly Pro-ject Debut Carbon Evo.
Like the original, the limited edition Debut PRO has a precision aluminum turntable with TPE damping and height-adjustable metal feet.
Aside from the clean-whistling finish, the only major difference in specs from the satin black original model is the Ortofon’s 2M white cartridge pre-installed instead of the 2M red cartridge.
In addition to the pre-installed phono cartridge, Pro-Ject also bundles a dust cover and a Pro-Ject Connect-IT E phono cable.
The limited edition Pro-Ject Debut PRO goes on sale later this month for £699 in the UK and €799 in Europe. The original sold for $999 in the US, so we’re hoping this version will do the same.
Opinion: Debut Pro is all white with a retro Apple feel
While Pro-ject may be celebrating its ’90s format with this limited-edition steel wheel, the finish definitely has a touch of ’00s tech-chic.
The minimalist design has us tempted to pair it with the ill-fated Apple iPod Hi-Fi, but let’s be honest – this turntable deserves better than being rigged into a blah blah blah blah chaos.
The original Debut Pro was an excellent kit, delivering a solid and controlled sound, and this new look certainly has our aesthetic approval. It’s one thing for the best turntables to have a bold color look…it’s completely It’s another thing for one that literally has all the colors, tonearms and all. We’d love to wrap it around a technical piece of art, but that would waste its musical potential.
