Check the nozzle
You can run a nozzle check from your computer to see if the printheads are clogged. Instructions vary by manufacturer. Check your owner’s manual or manufacturer’s website for specific instructions. Now, this step will use some of your precious ink.

After starting the nozzle check, your printer will spit out a test page. If the test page prints with solid lines, your nozzles are clean. If the print line is broken, the print head needs to be cleaned. Read on to learn the steps to take.

If your nozzle check is poor, it’s time to clean the printhead. Dust and ink can clog the heads. Cleaning them will prolong the life of your printer and make your prints look better.
Depending on your model, the printhead can be part of the printer cartridge or built into the printer. Again, instructions vary by printer, so check with your manufacturer for specific instructions.
If your printer has more than one option, start with a regular cleaning and then a deep cleaning if necessary.

Dusting the inside and outside of the printer can prevent dust, dirt, and grime from accumulating.
That means it will run smoother — and last longer. You don’t want to be too rough with the interior. Use a soft, lint-free cloth. The Q-tip is good for hard-to-reach places, but don’t stick it to any ports, or it might leave fluff.
