Tech companies don’t seem to share when you can use their products or services to save money. For example, if you are traveling or have a second home, you are not using your home internet service. Click or tap on a money-saving trick that your ISP doesn’t want you to know about.

Two years ago, we were all addicted to TV. This is not the case now. Here are five things you need to know before you cancel your streaming service.

Privacy Tip: 5 Ways You’re Being Tracked You Must Stop Now

1. You may be spending more than you realize

When a streaming service costs just a few dollars a month, you won’t think twice. But add them all up, and before you know it, you’re paying more than you think.

You may not even be using all streaming services on a regular basis. My rule of thumb: if there’s a show I’m watching, I’ll keep the service. Otherwise, I will cancel. I’ll sign up again as soon as there’s something new I’d like to see.

Keep an eye on your streaming budget and your monthly spending. I bet you will be surprised.

When you use it, make note of the time between each charge. That’s why.

2. Take your time

It’s annoying when you plan to cancel a service and then get hit with another charge before you cancel. Let’s put your list of renewal dates to work.

Add these dates to your calendar and check it before canceling. Plan accordingly so you can pay for one month less.

Some platforms, like Netflix, will tell you when you can access your account when you request to close it, but some won’t. You don’t need their help because you figured it out yourself.

Pro tip: Companies don’t want you to cancel, so they can make it tricky. This is especially true on your smartphone. Process it from your computer to make it easier.

4. See if there are any discounts for accommodation

If you’re wary of canceling your streaming service, go through the process. You might be surprised that they will offer you discounted rates or even a month of free nights.

Jot down dates and set reminders. If you haven’t watched anything at the end of the month, it’s time to say goodbye. The discount doesn’t mean anything if you don’t even use the offer.

Pro tip: There are other ways to get streaming freebies as well. Check with your phone provider or credit card company to see what you can get for free. T-Mobile’s Netflix on Us and Verizon’s Disney+ bundles are just two examples.

5. You need a backup plan

A great way to save money on entertainment is to return to the magic of broadcast TV. Connect a simple antenna to your TV to stream free HD live content from popular networks.

How to choose an antenna?

Amplified Antennas: Large and powerful, these are typically used in houses with moderate-strength signals. It’s an affordable one that I like.

Large Outdoor Antennas: These antennas are great for areas with weak signal. They can be magnified or not. This antenna works well and won’t break the bank.

Don’t worry if you’re not sure which networks your antenna can access. Zap2It is a reliable online directory for finding local TV listings by provider or time zone.

It’s better to record shows to watch when needed. For this, you need a wireless DVR. Tap or click here for some of the best options.
