Apple TV (2022) is the expected follow-up to the current Apple TV 4K — a new version of Apple’s streaming set-top box — not to be confused with Apple TV (an app on Apple devices and smart TVs) or Apple TV+ (a streaming service).

Evidence is mounting that a new Apple TV 4K is in the works, partly from analysts and leakers who have revealed possible information about it, but also from misinformation about a new remote in iOS 16.
Whether that means a replacement for the Apple TV 4K (2021) will arrive anytime soon remains to be seen – and frankly, we’d be surprised if it comes in 2022, as the current model is only released in spring 2021 , and very much in line with the date regarding hardware, such as HDMI 2.1 support. But if Apple has a good reason to create a new box, it’s certainly not impossible.
The big question now is what price to expect: Apple is rumored to be working on a cheaper, smaller version that’s more of a streaming stick than the current boxy model. But another rumor suggests that Apple is planning to use a higher-end processor, suggesting that the current design will stick to upgraded internals — which could mean no price drop.

New Apple TV (2022): Price and release date
If Mark Gurman’s rumors that the new Apple TV will feature a more powerful A14 chip are true, it seems we shouldn’t expect the new version of the Apple TV 4K to be cheaper than it is now – which sounds like a drop-in replacement.
However, rumors from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo that Apple is working on a cheaper version – perhaps more like a simple streaming stick without the complex apps and games of the main Apple TV – could mean An alternative to the cheaper version.
A cheaper version probably isn’t because Apple specifically wants a cheap TV box (it already offers the Apple TV app for free on many TVs, so this seems to be the company’s way of reaching more people cheaply) — Instead, it’s an Apple Fitness+ supported device. If you want to use the service on your big TV, and it works best, you need an Apple Watch and an Apple TV – it adds up. A cheaper TV stick could help push people to Apple’s paid fitness service.
As for the release date, if it’s just an upgrade to an existing box, we’d be surprised to see it appear in 2022, since the last time Apple updated it was only in 2021, and as far as the features it really needs, there isn’t any meaningful change.
However, a cheaper version could be released before Christmas, so we wouldn’t be shocked to see it later in 2022 if it exists.
New Apple TV 4K (2022): Features
There’s no reason to expect major new features from the new Apple TV. Apple TV 4K (2021) is updated with HDMI 2.1 and is already more powerful than any other streaming box on the planet.
Apple TV doesn’t yet have some software features (such as HDR10+ support, though coming soon), but these don’t require new hardware.
An upgrade to its processor may allow for more advanced gaming features, but these are likely to be used only sparingly.
What we’re really interested in is the Siri Remote, which includes ultra-wideband communication technology from Apple AirTags so that when you lose the remote, you can use your iPhone to pinpoint exactly which sofa cushion the remote is hidden under.
