Windows 11 users can now get Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) apps directly from the Microsoft Store, the software giant announced at Build 2022.
For starters, WSL is a compatibility layer that allows Windows 11 to run Linux and its associated applications like native software (as you might imagine, with a little performance overhead – but impressive resistance small).
Previously available as a preview download from the Microsoft Store by testers, with its official release, any Windows 11 user can now install the fully finished avatar, which should be polished and any major bugs fixed.
Analysis: Get good stuff faster with WSL
So, what are the benefits of installing WSL from the Microsoft Store? Well, this way, users can receive updates as they are applied through the Store, rather than having to wait for a major feature update for Windows 11 to improve WSL. Of course, this is great news for those who want to get the latest developments with WSL as soon as possible.
Keep in mind that WSL is not something that a less tech-savvy person might find themselves juggling. However, if you want to try it out under Windows 11, we’ve got a complete guide on setting up a Linux distribution via WSL (in the case of Ubuntu, one of the most popular choices for Linux distributions, of course).
